In a view to make cars safer in the future, the manufacturers have been notified to develop vehicles with seat reminders feature as standard in all models. As per the details shared by MotorBeam, the road transport ministry has issued a draft notification, under which it has stated the rule, asking the companies to make the safety feature mandatory, starting from 1st April, 2025.
Mandatory Safety Features

The rules have been introduced after witnessing a massive road accident of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry, who died in a road accident.
It was reported then that the industrialist was scummed to injuries after his Mercedes-Benz car collided with railing. He was heading towards Mumbai from Ahmedabad. Initial investigation also revealed that he was not wearing a seatbelt, which made the situation even worse at the time of the accident. The vehicle was running at quite a high speed, covering a distance of 100 kmph on average.
Seat Belt Related Challans
Meanwhile, despite making the rule of wearing seat belts mandatory, the traffic in Delhi issues thousands of challans every month. While many are unaware of the law of wearing car seat belts at the back, some usually avoid it just to feel more comfortable during their journey.
Penalty
To make them under the importance of the rule, Delhi traffic police also started a drive in 2022, encouraging people to use rear seat belts while traveling. A penalty of Rs 1,000 also has been levied for the offenders, making the rule more strict.
