New Delhi:

Hollywood’s big night, the 96th Academy Awards, are on and Oppenheimer has triumphed as Best Picture. Christopher Nolan won the Oscar for Best Director and the film also won two of the big acting awards – Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr won Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, as they were expected to. Emma Stone won Best Actress for Poor Things. Da’Vine Joy Randolph was named Best Supporting Actress for The Holdovers.

Anatomy Of A Fall and American Fiction won Best Original and Best Adapted Screenplay respectively. Poor Things won Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, and Best Makeup and Hair. Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell won Best Original Song for What Was I Made For? from Barbie with Oppenheimer taking Best Original Score – two of the Academy’s most popular award categories.

India’s official entry, Malayalam film 2018: Everyone Is A Hero, exited the nomination race at the shortlist stage. To Kill A Tiger, set in India, competed for Best Documentary Feature, which was won by 20 Days In Mariupol.

The Oscar nominations this year made headlines for three notable omissions – snubs were delivered to Barbie director and lead star Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, and Killers Of The Flower Moon actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
